Kayla Cummings, @itshoneydone on Instagram, is all about turning the honey-do list into honey-done. Her DIY spirit has led her to jump into all kinds of projects in her home.
Kayla’s most recent endeavor was the laundry room, which she had already given a quick refresh to when the Cummings family first moved in. With the kitchen fully remodeled, the laundry room (right next to the kitchen) was due for the full overhaul.
As a DIY designer, builder, and influencer, Kayla leverages her audience to help her make big decisions. She also turns to her increasing experience and impeccable taste. Here are three of those decisions.
Getting the Right Cabinet Vibe
After weighing the options, Kayla wanted to do a brown cabinet in contrast to the lighter cabinets in the neighboring kitchen. But nothing that was too red, too rustic, or pricy.
The Weston Grizzly Shaker cabinet answered the call. It is warm, even brown with hints of variation that aren’t too woodsy.
A Floor Dilemma
The floors in the laundry room were an addition Kayla made in an earlier update but she knew that she wanted tile in the laundry room where there is potential moisture and high traffic. She asked followers for opinions and finally landed on a checkerboard pattern on the diagonal in black and white marble.
The countertop carries the black and white theme through but with heavier veining. It draws attention in a way that is a contrast but still complementary.
Backsplash Changeup
Kayla used Zellige tile on the kitchen backsplash and installed it herself. To connect the kitchen to the laundry room, she decided to do the same backsplash in the laundry room. Even with all the tools and the experience, when Kayla found a peel and stick Zellige tile that matched almost perfectly, she went for it.
The backsplash, whether tile or peel and stick, is a thread through the two spaces that brings the entire design together.
