I used your 60" Cherry Heritage Vanity for my master bathroom that I was remodeling. I had never used (RTA) Ready-To-Assemble cabinets before, but the process was quick and painless. I really like the fact that the back had openings for the drain and other pieces, so didn't even have to cut for the pipes. I really like the details on the cabinet and the rich cherry color.

Choosing Eco-Friendly Kitchen Cabinets For Your Kitchen

Creating an eco-friendly home is a huge undertaking. One of the biggest offenders of the home's environment can be new kitchen cabinets. If you are on a mission to keep your home's air quality clean and help the environment in the process, explore the tips below for choosing eco-friendly kitchen cabinets.

Creating an eco-friendly home is a huge undertaking. One of the biggest offenders of the home's environment can be new kitchen cabinets. If you are on a mission to keep your home's air quality clean and help the environment in the process, explore the tips below for choosing eco-friendly kitchen cabinets.

Cabinet Material
First consider whether or not your current cabinets truly need to be replaced. One of the easiest ways to save the earth and some money is to add new cabinet hardware to your existing cabinets. A fresh coat of paint over painted wooden cabinets is another way to change the look, add some color and save a bundle on replacement costs. If your cabinets cannot be salvaged, whether they have been damaged in a fire or flood, or have simply seen the end of their useful life, there are environmentally friendly cabinet options available to you. Solid wood that has been harvested in a certifiably sustainable fashion is an excellent eco-friendly choice for cabinetry. Bamboo is another option that is highly durable, sleek in design and amazingly sustainable as a natural resource. Although it is a grass, bamboo is as strong as most hardwoods that are famous for their long life and durability. Metal cabinets are also a great choice, as they can be reused and recycled after their exceptionally long life span as kitchen cabinets.

Watch Out For...
The number one hazard associated with cabinets is from a product that is made using urea formaldehyde. This chemical agent is used in the production of some cabinetry and can cause serious health problems and alter air quality in the home. Many homeowners are not aware that the chemicals used in cabinet making can influence the air quality at home, but they can and do. Be especially leary of cabinets made from particle board or composite woods. There are other, safer alternatives that can be used, such as soy and PVC.

Pairing Down
Another thing to consider when striving for an eco-friendly kitchen is how many cabinets are actually necessary. Chances are that at least one cabinet can be removed from the design and replaced with open shelving or wall racks to hold pots, pans and cooking utensils or dishes. Not only will this free up your budget, but it will also cut down on unnecessary consumerism.

Choosing eco-friendly cabinets and cabinet refinishing options for your kitchen is a great way to save the planet. While it may not seem like a huge step, if each homeowner was more conscious about the kitchen remodeling decisions he was making, there might be more use of sustainable resources like bamboo and less deforestation taking place around the world. Become an informed consumer, talk with local cabinet makers and a kitchen remodeling contractor to determine what is not only best for your budget, but what is best for your home's environment.
