Hardwood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many of our cabinets have hardwood doors or door frames. Hardwood does an excellent job at creating a framework for a cabinet that will stand the test of time. It also does a good job with style. There\u2019s really nothing quite like the look of wood for a more natural, rustic cabinet design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, hardwood is a natural material and adjusts to the environment around it. They will expand and contract to humidity and temperature changes, which can cause warping and cracking in extreme conditions. We choose plywood and HDF for some of the components of our cabinets to account for this. Using several different materials makes for the most durable cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plywood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We use plywood for the construction of the cabinet boxes. Plywood is a laminated wood product that\u2019s a champ at making resilient and strong cabinet frames and boxes that can easily withstand the weight of stone countertops and the daily use of the kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HDF & MDF<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Also known as high-density fiberboard, HDF is an engineered wood product made of wood fibers tightly packed with resins. They are our choice for many cabinet doors because they withstand humidity and temperature with no problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MDF, or medium-density fiberboard, is the same as HDF but not as dense. The fibers are not packed as tightly. This makes a lighter more flexible (and less expensive) product. HDF is thinner, denser, heavier, and stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
