Remodeling Tip: Open Floor Plan is Key

We are so impressed by Mark Khan’s stunning kitchen makeover; we absolutely had to share.

Mark’s Story:

Mark faced two challenges: an outdated kitchen and separated floor plan that made his kitchen more like a closet.

Are you familiar with the struggle of trying to prepare a meal, people coming in to grab drinks, and guests trying to socialize all in the same cramped area? Mark had that problem, but with the new Cherryville Cabinets, crown molding, and one knocked down wall, Mark now has a beautiful entertaining spot where more than one person can cook and socialize.

Cramped spaces are an all-too-familiar obstacle for hosting events at your own home—and that’s especially true when it comes to kitchens.

Mark had the vision to open up the wall in the kitchen into the living room to allow communication and foot traffic to flow much more smoothly—isn’t that the point of having friends and family over? When people can’t relax and enjoy time with each other, you might as well call it off.

Mark surmounted these challenges easily and affordably by himself and the results are truly impressive!

See below to see how Mark effortlessly transformed his cramped cooking area into a free-flowing entertainment space.

Overall Budget:

Mark’s total budget for the entire remodel was $7,000, and about $1,900 of the budget was allotted for his new cabinets. With this budget, he was able to totally transform not only his kitchen, but also the living area—making the main level much more functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Style of Cabinets:

Mark decided on the elegant Cherryville Cabinet Line. The Cherryville Line offers a rich Cherry color with subtle black antiquing around the features of the door. It comes with undermount drawer glides and natural wood drawer boxes. With its rich color, the Cherryville Cabinet Line pairs well with a wide variety of palettes, providing a timeless look that provides the kitchen a classic yet updated look—not to mention ample cabinet space!

Unique Features or Touches added:

Mark added crown molding and opened up that wall in the kitchen to the living room for a more open feel to give the main level its finished look. The best part: he did it all by himself.
