Landlords: Boost the Income from your rental properties

We deal with a lot of rental property owners and one of them had a good point that I thought I would share with everyone.   One of the biggest challenges that you face as a landlord is how to get more rent out of your units with investing a lot of time or money into them.  If they are outdated or in need of repair, they are going to be harder to rent and you will get less rent for them (that is just a fact of life).   So when a customer approached us about buying 10 kitchens at once, I had to find out why.  He made a great point about rental units that I had never thought about.

He said there are 3 things that stick out in an apartment or rental unit:  the carpet, the kitchen, and the bathroom(s).   If any of them look worn or outdated, you will have a hard time renting a unit.  Since kitchens can be expensive, he searched high and low to find a cost effective solution and he came across us.  He said that for roughly $3,000 per unit (10 units) he could update the kitchen cabinets  and the bathroom, and raise the rent an extra $250 a month!   That basically means that he has the renovation paid off in a year, and he is now bringing in an extra $250 per unit from here on out.   Not only that, but the fact that they had updated kitchens and bathrooms made the units more marketable to renters.    I never really thought about it that way. Most landlords are looking for ways to avoid spending money, when this guy was out there spending money to make more money.  He didn't want me to mention his name, but he said it was okay to share his secret.

So for all the rental property owners and landlords out there, you might want to look at it from this guys point of view.

Contractors: Maximize the Revenue on your Kitchen & Bathroom Renovation Bids

With the current state of the construction industry, renovation and remodeling projects are becoming more and more competitive for our customers that are contractors and builders.  With homeowners looking for ways to minimize the amount of money they are spending on renovation projects because they are afraid they may not get that money back when they go to sell their house.  When bidding on these projects, the only way to remain competitive on the bid without reducing your profits is by looking at the materials used.  RTA Kichen Cabinets and RTA Bathroom Vanities are a great solution.  By using RTA cabinets, you can not only offer a high quality product, but also save the home owner a significant amount of money.   Plus, our contractor rewards program helps put money back in your pocket.  So the next renovation bid that you are bidding on, consider offering RTA cabinets as an alternative to high priced name brand cabinets.

RTA Cabinet Store Goes High End

In our efforts to continuously offer new products to our customers, we are proud to relaunch our high end bathroom vanity site.  Artistic Bathroom Designs has a new look and new products.   While we do sell bathroom vanities on RTA Cabinet Store.com, these are the custom kind.   Unique designs that in some cases are hand painted, which makes them truly unique.   Most of them would fall into the category of bathroom furniture, since they have the distinct characteristics of antique furniture.

So if you are looking for something a little bit more fancy than the bathroom vanities we have listed on the RTA site, head over to www.highendvanities.com to see what the new site has to offer.

Granite Tops: The difficulty in shipping large tops

Granite is certainly a challenging material to work with, especially when you are dealing with larger pieces.   The weight and awkward size of the vanity tops makes it so that they have to be strapped to a pallet.   Once you start getting into the larger size tops, the amount of surface area starts to become a problem.   Since granite is a natural material, it will inevitably have stronger and weaker points in the surface.

Over the past couple of months we have run into major issues with the larger tops, particularly the 61" tops.   The excessive vibration on the large surface (and mis-handling from the trucking companies), was leading to a large amount of damage.  This not only creates problems from the customers stand point, but it is also a nightmare for us from a claims stand point.   Because of that, we have decided to stop shipping the 61" tops, atleast until we can figure out a method that the carriers can handle.   We are still offering them for local pickup, but shipping is no longer an option at this point.

Christmas Surprise! New Kitchen Cabinets

Every year around this time, we start getting calls from guys that are trying to surprise their wives with new Kitchen Cabinets.   How do they get them installed without the wife seeing them?   Coordinating delivery before Christmas...  all the little details that go into making it a real surprise.

While most people wouldn't think of Maple cabinets as the first gift they would give someone, it actually makes a lot of sense (especially if your family utilizes the kitchen as the central hub of the home).

The great thing about buying kitchen cabinets as a holiday gift is that you are actually adding value to your home. There are very few gifts where you can actually say that!

If a full set of kitchen cabinets is not in your budget, then maybe a bathroom remodel is. Simply replacing an outdated bathroom vanity and/or fixtures can give the room a whole new look.

Karen Schellenberg is the 2009 Kitchen Renovation Contest Winner

After a lot of debating back and forth in our office, we are happy to announce that Karen Schellenberg from Morden, Manitoba, Canada is the lucky winner of $4,000 in our 2009 kitchen renovation contest!   Karen completely gutted a 1920's building and turned it into a modern urban condo using our Autumn Shaker Kitchen Cabinets and Autumn Shaker Bathroom Vanities.    She has some great pictures that we will be uploading to the site as soon as we get everything scanned and properly formatted.

It was really hard to pick a winner this year since we had so many great entries. Some had a dramatic transformation, while others were extra creative. Each year it gets harder and harder to pick a winner.  We definitely have some very skilled customers who know how to put together and design a kitchen.

Since it seems like all of our competitors have decided to copy our kitchen contest, we are putting together something even bigger and better for next year! Keep checking back to the website for updates on the 2010 contest.

RTA Cabinet Store will be filming two episodes of Renovation Rescue on the DIY Network

With the start of the new year, we are busy at work on some new shows on both the DIY Network and HGTV. Next week we will be heading out to Denver, CO to film two bathroom renovations for the show Renovation Rescue which will be debuting on the DIY Network in a couple of months. They are using the Cherryville cabinets for one bathroom renovation and the Marquis Cinnamon vanities for another house, both in the Denver area. Keep checking back for pictures of the finished product.

We have been super busy with the start of the new year, so we apologize for not getting the kitchen renovation contest winners pics up on the site yet. I will post a couple in a blog just to give you an idea of what the look like... I promise I will get them up as soon as possible!

Renovation Rescue- The Big Reveals are Being Filmed Today

Today is the big day that the reveals for the two different episodes of "Renovation Rescue" are being filmed.  Unfortunately due to the weather in the Northeast, we were not able to make it to Denver to be there for filming.   The production team promised to take a lot of pictures of the Marquis Cinnamon and the Cherryville vanities, and the transformation that occurred.   Check back for pictures from the show.    We just received the layout for the kitchen that is going to be installed on an episode of "Kitchen Renovations"... this one will be filmed in Philadelphia, so it should be exciting.   That show will be taped at the beginning of March, and they have decided to install the Marquis Cinnamon Kitchen Cabinets.
